Reviving The Blog After a 2 Year Hiatus

Hope you didn’t miss me that much as some of you might think I have already retired from the game of sneakers based on my low frequency of posting on IG. Well guess what? I’m still here! From the business aspect I haven’t been slacking..trust me on this one. In fact, I am probably 2-3x more busy than what I was the last time I blogged here and for the better. I mean where should I start in terms of blogging. The reason I decided to try to revive the blog is because I just realized I get to relive the my sneaker reselling journey here by reading my old posts. While I was coming back to the blog I realized I had a BIG gap in the journey where I wish I could have documented. So I decided to try to keep myself accountable and blog every Sunday and make it a habit. Of course just like before… I’ll be discussing the business, market trends in sneakers and a lot more…just like the old days, but just once a week.

Let’s start high level. What’s old and what’s new? The biggest change was definitely our business model. Back then we relied on 90% of our business through Instagram posts and followers, but fast forward to 2024 today. We basically don’t even rely on IG anymore for any of business revenue. $11 Subscriptions used to be a big chunk of our revenue, but now only represents less than 5% of our entire revenue. The reason why we decided to shift focus was simply because this new platform called Whatnot. In case you haven’t heard of them already…they are a live streaming platform where we sell sneakers. One easy way to put it…you can think of them as eBay on steroids. Like i mean steroids x1000. I’m not even trying to exaggerate on the last point because Whatnot alone today generates almost 90% of our revenue and we’re doing pretty crazy volume on that app. Anyways, I will discuss the Whatnot journey in detail in another post in the future, but as for today…that’s where our main focus is. I still love the $11 subscriptions to give everyday people the chance to own a pair of grails, but at the end of the day, there will always be more losers than winners and eventually this can’t be scaled much further than what we already brought it to.

Then we have another beast…The Netmagnetism Kickbricks. I started the kickbricks 5 years ago with the intent of supplementing our income with sneaker reselling, but man…I’m so proud of where we took this product. My initial concept was to do anything BUT apparel and something that can’t be replicated easily because I wanted to be different and I’m super glad I took the leap of faith. It wasn’t an easy ride the first 3 years, but things really did take off in the past 2 years and it’s crazy to say I make more selling kickbricks in 1 year than I did my first 2 years of reselling sneakers combined. This will also be discussed in a further blog session in the future. The time I knew I made a smash hit product was when i realized how many requests I have received to wholesale and carry my product over the past 2 years. The best part of this product is the ability to scale is LIMITLESS. I never have to be controlled by a supplier and I can create my own market and dictate on my own terms.

Anyways, I’ll keep my first blog back short and sweet. I still have 2 years worth of experiences that I still wanted to revisit and all the new and current events that I want to discuss about…BUT if there is anything you missed me talking about first…drop them in the comment section. Hope I have the time to keep this going on a consistent basis lol.

  1. The Whatnot change was definitely a huge change on the consumer side too. It’s great hanging out with Tong and hearing his thoughts on the past and current sneaker trends. He’s definitely been in the game for a long time and it’s great hearing what he have to say. The first couple of streams were fun especially how much Tong talked about each pair, grabbed a couple of steals as well.
